Ok so ever since we moved into a newly built home over a year ago I can’t seem to stop noticing dust. It seems as if everywhere I turn there’s dust. Dust on the tv. Dust on the table. Dust on the floor. Dust on the mirror, on the baseboards, on the fridge handles, on the nightstands and sure enough if I don’t use my damn pens every day there’s dust on them too.
Now, I do realize that dust is a perfectly natural part of everyday life and completely unavoidable but COME ON PEOPLE! Dust on the bathtub ledge?? We use that everyday, sometime two or three times a day!!! Now, truth be told by no means am I the worlds most neat and tidy woman or mom but one thing I am not, is dirty. I’m the kind of person that when a friend decides to pop by fairly unannounced, I’m literally in the bathroom 3 minutes before they arrive scrubbing, wiping and cleaning making sure it’s spotless because you see, filth is the biggest thing I cannot stand (well one of the biggest things…well all of the things I can’t stand are considered the ‘biggest’ things in my book but don’t get me started on that..) ANYWAYS…. you see dust is the one thing that no matter how often I dust, I turn around and 3 hours later and it’s like I’ve continually forgotten a spot. I mean how is it possible that dust can be created and collected within moments of it being cleaned up? It’s like the ninja filth of the planet. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me want to puke.
I don’t know why out of all the things that get dirty on a regular basis that the one thing that is probably the cleanest (germ wise) is the very thing that bothers me the most….and those who know me know that I’m a total germaphobe. It’s completely unexplainable and it bothers me to no end. I know I can’t change it but man, living with this vortex of the never ending dustcapades is starting to take a toll on my sanity…
Now you’re asking yourselves… “ok we get that you loath dust but what’s the point of your rant?” Well, I’m glad you asked and now that I’m done my ranting and raving I will tell you. Why don’t you ask yourselves what it is in your life that you loath? What is it that bothers you to no extent that it gnaws on your every day conscience and you can’t seem to get rid of it? You see, there are things that arise in our everyday lives. Things we have control over and things we don’t. Notice how the things we DON’T have control over we tend to let it get the best of us, control our every thought, reaction or even our desires? Yet, on the other hand the things we DO have control over we use excuses like “it won’t work”, “I can’t do it” or “what’s the point” and we avoid doing anything to change the outcome which makes us dance around in the inevitability of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We also sometimes think that if we complain about the things we can’t change, for whatever reason, people will be much more willing to listen or understanding. WRONG. People don’t want to listen to any kind of complaining.. ESPECIALLY about the crap you can do something about..
Anyways, the point I’m getting my friends is for us to stop obsessing about the things we can’t control and to let it go. And for the things we can control, we need to start taking action, makes changes and turn ourselves into mini Joan of Arc’s, never taking no for an answer and taking our homes, jobs and country by storm! In my case, I suppose I have to accept that I will be dusting until the day I die, however this is a much better alternative than letting it pile up and become solid matter that I have to one day scrape off. See I’ve already done something about it.. I’ve changed my mentality…and sometimes that’s all it takes. A simple shift in opinion or perspective and voila! It ain’t so bad anymore.
Am I alone in this thinking? I better not be. Especially after you read this post, you should all be nodding your heads and going, “yeah, this girl really knows what she’s talking about”… well even if I get “she knows half of what she’s talking about” I’ll take it… So whatever your “genuine disgust for dust” in your life is, take a moment and think about what you can do to change your perspective or situation. Accept that you can either change it or can’t and then do something about it or move on…but whatever you do, don’t complain about it… CAPICHE? (if that’s even how you spell it..)
